Jimmy Carter's state funeral was held at the National Cathedral on Thursday and the 39th president's final journey to Georgia has begun. President Biden gave a eulogy at the service, highlighting Carter's character and faith.

Police said the man was arrested at a security checkpoint for people waiting to view the former president's casket as he lies in state in the Capitol rotunda.

Police at the US Capitol building arrested a man with a machete and three knives as he attempted to enter through a checkpoint Wednesday. Capitol Police said the machete was spotted by an X-ray machine at an entrance to the building's visitor centre.
